So this past weekend I went down to Peoria, my first visit down there since Kristi and Brandon had been married and it was a good time. Friday, work was bat-shit crazy but in the process I got the CFO to agree to let me get a new computer, which will make my job just so much easier. After work and getting gas I began the uneventful drive down. I got in around my usual time and we exchanged belated birthday/Christmas gifts, relaxed and hung out before going to bed.
The next day I joined Kristi at the Peoria Art Guild, but it was one of those rare days where since everyone else was out there wasn't much to do and we ended up just hanging out and I checked out the exhibits.
After work Kristi and Brandon took me to Chamilles Sidewalk Cafe, where hte food was awesome and I got to enjoy a smoothie even. After dinner Kristi and I went on a quest to find Highlander. I say quest because we went to 3 different video stores before we finally found the original we were looking for. The other two had the same two copies of the sequels. The movie was fun entertainment, but Kristi's commentary certainly made the sex scene more amusing to watch.
After the movie we headed out to Richards for Amanda's birthday party. Throughout the night we were introduced as the Bryan Sector, where we proceeded to explain why we shouldn't be. Jill and Randy were also part of the B.S. as well, and fun times were had as we all hung out, and I was periodically recruited to move to Peoria. We also made plans to have a girl's night out in two weeks, the last one was in This being wanted by people is a strange new sensation for me, but I very much feel loved when I'm down there.
We left Richard's around 1 to 1:30, braving the cold, and spent some time looking at possible hair-styles for Brandon before retiring for bed. On Sunday we woke up, had muffins that were baked the night before for breakfast (they were good, I was very happy) and just spent a very relaxing time until I had to leave. The drive back was similarly uneventful, I came back just as the Dresden files were starting so I watched that and BSG, geeked out and then went to bed.
Today work wasn't as bad as Friday, still busy but considerably less so. I was even able to get a quote for a possible new computer, which makes me extremely happy, this new computer would be like a life-saver to me.
The Art Institute is having a Silk Road Exhibit, and admission during most of February is free! I was thinking of going this weekend but after realizing that the Superbowl is this Sunday have determined to stay as far away from Chicago as possible. Which considering I hardly ever go into the city won't be too hard. I plan on going the 17th instead.
Also I tend to notice the backward trend of American politicians, primarily because I live in the US, but to be fair the Japanese health Minister has recently called women "birth-giving machines". Granted this dude is 71, and I generally take anything people over 60 say about women with them just not being able to adapt to the times. Still to have a high-ranking official state such a thing, even in response to the possible threat of the decline in welfare state does put things in perspective.
Japan's birth-rate has been on a steady decline as more "women choose to remain in the work-force". Personally I don't think the problem is women wanting to stay in the work-force, it's that women are expected to stop working as soon as they get married, so more people choose to stay unmarried, and thus are less likely to have kids in general.
The Prime Minister is being pressured to fire him, at least that shows some thinking.
And as I promised Kristi
